Addressing the digital skills gap 

Our completely unique approach to apprenticeships has been designed with both businesses and employees in mind. 

We’ve created a programme that creates employable talent and engages new hires from day one – offering exciting training and career development at pace to ensure new hires will add value quickly.

As an employer you get to invest in the training and development of your workforce, and Code Nation will provide you with access to a talent pool of individuals available nowhere else.

Here’s how it works;


Immersive Learning

Your new hire will spend the first 12 weeks of their employment on our fully immersive ‘Master: Coding’ bootcamp. This forms the 20% of an apprentice’s ‘off the job’ learning requirement – meaning when they join you in week 13, your apprentice is with you full time and adding value.

There’s no block or day release learning and therefore no impact to your projects or requirements.


Individual Learning Plans

Code Nation will work with you the employer, and the apprentice, to create an individual learning plan (ILP). This ILP will enable you, your Apprentice and Code Nation to track progress and ensure all parties have the right amount of support to achieve success.

We recognise that preparing your Apprentice for your business requires communication along with an opportunity to build rapport and relationships.


Tailored Technical Training

Your new recruits will take on our core curriculum in addition to your business’s tech stack. We have the ability to teach; C# .NET, PHP, Python, AWS, Java, extra Swift and iOS, extra JavaScript (React, Node) and extra Databases (MySQL, mongodb). 

Throughout week 10 of the 12 week bootcamp your Apprentice will have 120 minutes per day of Instructor-led technical training plus, daily check-ins to ensure their learning is progressing. Time spent on this will be logged on their OneFile timesheet and will be reviewed by their designated Skills Coach.


All apprentices sit the ‘Microsoft Exam 70-480: Programming with HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3’, the ‘BCS Methodologies’ and ‘BCS Level 4 End Point Assessment’ as part of their qualification. 

Becoming Microsoft certified mid-way through the programme provides a great platform to build confidence and engagement of your apprentice. 

All apprentices have full Plural Site membership so we can curate additional learning you may identify.

Full time training whilst in employment

Your apprentice joins your team full time in week 13, after graduating from the 12 week bootcamp.

Month 4 to month 15 of the Apprenticeship runs alongside the job. Your Junior Developer will be working on live ‘business as usual’ for you, and the Skills Coach team at Code Nation will be supporting your Apprentice monthly based on their Individual Learning Plan. 

As an employer, you will provide a mentor and buddy to your Apprentice. Employers we work with have approached this in a variety of ways, with a real positive impact to their wider software and technical teams.

Supporting your Apprentices

The personal and technical development of your Apprentices is at the core of this programme, so here’s some examples of the support available to your new hires both during and after the bootcamp;

  • Monthly catch-ups with Skills Coach
  • Pastoral support from Campus Manager
  • Access to Instructors through Slack throughout programme
  • On-demand support through Skills Coaches and Instructors
  • Scheduled revision sessions for Microsoft Exam
  • Scheduled revision sessions for BCS exam
  • Technical masterclasses throughout programme
  • Innovation sessions through virtual attendance 
  • Access to Pluralsight throughout programme
  • Enrichment sessions – mindfulness and resilience programmes specifically for apprentices

How do I find an Apprentice?

Cross training or up-skilling your current employees: 

Whether you have high-attrition in a particular area of your business, or are committed to providing continuous professional development, you can use our apprenticeship programme to cross train into your software development teams. We can provide you with testing and assessment resources to ascertain if internal applicants demonstrate the core globally recognised attributes of a successful software developer.

Hiring Externally:

We can help you to attract, assess and engage with new talent that is interested in joining your business. Use our recruitment expertise coupled and knowledge of what makes a successful developer, we’ll manage the end-to-end process for you. Working with your hiring team, we can execute this swiftly via one of our recruitment days, or we can work to support your current approach.

How much will it cost?

There are zero recruitment or placement fees to pay when you take on an apprentice – whether you choose to recruit internally or hire external candidate.

Organisations are able to access the entire apprenticeship programme at zero cost thanks to the Apprenticeship Levy; if your business currently pay into the Apprenticeship Levy, then you will be able to use these funds to pay for the training.
